Treatment of Essential Tremor

Essential Tremor, also known as familial tremor or hereditary tremor, is the most common kinetic disorder.

It is characterized by uncontrollable tremor (shaking) in the hands, head, voice or other parts of the body that occurs in adulthood and can be progressively aggravated by age.

The tremor is more noticeable when performing voluntary movements such as when the patient holds a glass, a spoon or when he writes. It appears when the hands are completely loose and sleeping.

Usually tremors are temporarily exacerbated by stress, thrill, hunger, caffeine consumption and fatigue.

Characteristic in cases of essential tremor is that the tremor is not accompanied by other symptoms such as: slow mobility, stiffness, gait disturbance and balance. If any of these symptoms coexist, then it is more likely that the tremor is a symptom of another disease such as, for example, Parkinson.

The cause of essential tremor is not known, but more than half of the patients have another family member with horror.

In many cases when the trembling is very intense it can create problems in everyday life and in working life. At the same time his presence during social excursions can affect the psychology of the individual.

The diagnosis of essential tremor is clinical and based on the history, neurological examination and the characteristics of the horror.

The treatment of essential tremors is usually pharmaceutical. In some cases, tremor can be treated with botulinum toxin even neurosurgical.
