Improving Memory / Mental Empowerment

Cognitive abilities are worn over time. The human brain works like a body - as the muscle needs training so the brain needs exercise. Cognitive empowerment is a method that consists of exercises that aim to this practice.

People suffering from Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia experience a gradual decline in their mental functions such as memory, speech and attention. Disruption of these functions affects their everyday lives, so they need help from a caregiver, so they can cope with the demands of everyday life.

Contemporary research suggests that medication combined with systemic mental exercise substantially improves both the mental functions of dementia patients and their functionality. Cognitive empowerment is involved in the creation of new brain cells, and at the same time it helps the brain to find new ways to perform processes controlled by corrupted brain regions.

Other research also shows that the participation of mentally healthy individuals in mental empowerment programs reduces the likelihood of mental decline and dementia in later life to 46%.

Because of this, mental empowerment acts as prevention for elderly people who have not yet experienced memory problems, as well as people with pre-dementia, and for those who, due to family history, would like to protect their mind.

Finally, individuals who participated in cognitive programs say they were helped to fight their apathy, withdrawal and depressive symptoms, became more active and improved their mood.

All Programs of “Veresies” Clinic are approved and supervised by the Cyprus National Addictions Authority (CNAA).
